11 Dec Data4 teams up with Colt and lyntia to turn its Alcobendas campus into an international beacon of excellence
The emergence of 5G connectivity and widespread use of mobile devices is revolutionising the way modern societies develop. Despite the unmistakable step forward 5G will bring about, 99% of network traffic still runs through physical media, such as underground fibre optic cables. Indeed, Spain is emerging as a significant player in this area. One of the highest-capacity underwater cables in the world so far — 160 Tbps —, the MAREA, connects Bilbao with the United States.
The country, and more specifically Madrid, is emerging as a key strategic outpost when it comes to connectivity. All the biggest cloud providers and operators are investing in connectivity in the Spanish capital. It has become the ‘bridge’ between many continents, including Africa, Asia, the Middle East, the Americas… what’s more, given its central geographic location, it’s where all the networks converge, so it’s logical to invest and establish data centres at this crucial central point.
The best fibre optic linking cities, businesses and people
European native data centre operator Data4 is planning to combine its extensive facilities on the Alcobendas campus with their other infrastructure in Paris, Milan and Luxembourg, creating a global connectivity powerhouse. As such, they’ve recently reached an agreement with lyntia and the backbone Colt IQ Network to provide its Madrid campus with the very best connections. These will be the first network companies to connect the Data4 campus with multiple fibre cables from various routes.
According to Data4 Vice President of Strategy, Jérôme Totel, the purpose of this new alliance with Colt and lyntia is to have a “wide range of connectivity services available”, such as dark fibre, WDM, IP services, as well as private and secure connectivity to the public cloud, including AWS, GG and Microsoft Azure, in order to offer their customers “the best resources and connections for their businesses”.
This strategic move by Data4, of which lyntia is a part alongside Colt, will allow them to offer a wide variety of connectivity, redundancy and diversity options by level on their Madrid campus, according to varying needs, as 5G connectivity reaches its peak of development. The ultimate goal, as indicated by the company, is to maximise the benefits offered by technology to link countries, unite cities, connect companies and, ultimately, bring people together.
At lyntia, along with Colt, we share the desire to make a positive contribution to achieving the goals established by Data4. That’s why we’re proud to be able to build on this ambitious agreement, providing our connectivity services, our wide network coverage, a high degree of capillarity and minimal latency.
That’s in addition to our other telecommunications services, including dark fibre, capacities, FTTH wholesale services, VSAT, Internet and colocation. Thanks to the latest generation fibre optic and agile flexible bandwidth, we will be able to guarantee the highest quality connectivity services in significant infrastructure being called upon to rise up and claim an important space in the world of digital transfer, both in Spain and in Europe as a whole.
